I don't know why I haven't written anything on this blog for 4 years. I guess I have been sleeping walking these four years after we have learned about Aanu's ADHD. Ok so she is ADHD and I am okay with it.

Hell, I would be lying if I say I am 100% okay with it because there are days when her refusal to sit quietly has me screaming my head off and wanting to climb the walls but when she is not at home, the house feels incomplete, lifeless and sad. She is a live wire, happy, shiny, loving girl and I love her to bits.

This year, in fact just 4 days ago, Aanu has just started 2nd standard. She is unable to read, writes with effort and cannot do basic math. She has OT twice a week, a counselor in school, a special educator in school, is being treated by a psychiatrist who provides medication which will help her brain calm down so that she can focus. She has me to teach her and her Baba. This weekend she wanted to join a phonics class so I have enrolled her in phonicsmart in VP. Structured learning a struggle for her and I feel for her because otherwise she is SOOO intelligent.

I am constantly in conflict with myself. I keep wondering what she will be when she grows up. I worry about it. This had been my state for 4 years when I have not written this blog.

Now I have decided to change and look at things positively.

Last night we played Scrabble. Sachin used tremendous self control (not showing off his scrabble skills by using every X and Q in the set) and stuck to 3 letter words which she could read. She was constantly jumping off the bed, rolling around, going to write letters on the blackboard, writing in her diary, drinking juice, eating butter chakli...in short doing everything but sitting in one place.

When we sat for dinner, she told me, toh sofawala game parat kheluya. The 'soft' being the stand on which you keep the letters you get to use in Scrabble. We continued post dinner and she told me that she had fun. Now we plan to Scrabble every Sunday evening...
